Mastering the SAT math section is key to performing well on the Digital SAT, but to get an 800, you need more than just formulas. What we’ve learned is that students like you usually lose to the clock. Here’s how to maximize every second of the 70 minutes.

1. Know the Numbers

70 minutes total. 44 questions.
Two modules, 35 minutes each (22 questions per module).
You have roughly 95 seconds per question.
Reality Check: This is just an average. Some questions take 30 seconds; others take 3 minutes. That is normal.

2. Tactical Maneuvers for Max Points

The Two-Pass Technique

Don’t get bogged down. Go through the module twice:

Pass 1: Sweep through and answer every question you are confident about. Secure the easy points first. Calm your nerves and knock down the 30-second questions like “If x + 5 = 10, what is x?”
Pass 2: Loop back to the questions you skipped. Now you can spend your remaining energy on the harder problems.

Trust Your Gut

If a question feels "too easy," don't panic. It probably is that easy. Second-guessing wastes time and usually leads to wrong answers.

The "Mark for Review" Tool

Use the tools in Bluebook. If you are unsure, click the flag icon next to the question number.

Pro Tip: Select an answer before you flag it. If you run out of time, at least you have a guess on the board.

3. The Golden Rules

Never Leave it Blank. There is zero penalty for wrong answers. Even if you are completely stumped, pick an answer. A guess is a chance for points; a blank is a guaranteed zero.
Train Like You Fight. On practice tests, if you finish Module 1 early, do not skip ahead. Force yourself to sit there and check your work until the timer runs out. This builds the mental endurance you need for the real test. On the flip side, limit yourself to 35 minutes when doing full practices.
